WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

OVERVIEW
Wheelchair basketball offers those with physical impairments, who are not able to play standing basketball, an opportunity to play. Some players do not use wheelchairs in their daily lives. The object of the game is to score the most points in the opposing team’s basket. Players must not ‘travel’ with the ball and are required to throw or bounce the ball after every two pushes of their wheelchair. The team with the most points at the end of the game, wins.

SESSIONS
There are opportunities for new players to get involved in the sport through the Canterbury Basketball Association. Canterbury Wheelchair Basketball have training sessions during the season (Mar-Oct). Both can offer advice on accessing equipment such as basketball wheelchairs, or may even have some basketball wheelchairs available to use.
