NON SPORT SERVICES

ParaFed Canterbury's main focus is on promoting Para sports opportunities to our members with physical impairments. However, there are a number of other non-sport services that are available in Canterbury for our community to access.

Below is a list of some of the non-sport services that are available. The majority of these are offered by some of the other fantastic organisations across our region.

MOBILITY PARKING PERMITS

As a mobility parking permit holder you can park in designated mobility parking spaces. These are wider than standard parking spaces (making it easier to get in and out of a vehicle with a wheelchair or mobility aid), and are located closer to services and facilities.

TOTAL MOBILITY TAXI CARDS

Total Mobility is a nation-wide scheme designed to increase the mobility of people with disabilities who are unable to access public transport.

Assistance is provided in the form of discounted taxi fares. Total Mobility users are entitled to a 50% discount on taxi fares to a maximum of $35 per fare.

CCS Disability Action have a number of accessible holiday homes for rent. For some you need to be a member or service user and others allow anyone to make a booking.

ABILIQUIP

Abiliquip use their extensive engineering capability to modify vehicles for disability or whatever reason you need.

They have a range of products and services for vehicles, along with electric drive-assist wheels for chairs, which allow people to avoid the very expensive move to a fully powered wheelchair.

ENABLING GOOD LIVES

Enabling Good Lives is a new approach to supporting disabled people that offers greater choice and control over the supports they receive, so that they can plan for the lives they want.

PARALOANS

Paraloan provides financial assistance for people with physical disabilities. Loans are available for housing, vehicles, self-employment, and other purposes.

The Hāpai Access Card is nationwide and international. It is a way for you to identify businesses that will recognise your card and who are committed to help reduce the impact of the barriers. Many will offer a discount
