CYCLING

OVERVIEW
Para cycling offers events for tandems, bikes, trikes and handcycles. The sport is for people with a range of impairments including, cerebral palsy, amputations, spinal cord injuries, visual and other classifiable impairments. The programme includes sprints, individual pursuits, the 1000m time trial, road races and road time trials for both individuals and teams.


SESSIONS
Para cyclists in Canterbury have the opportunity to ride with the Para Cycling Group. The group come together for sessions over the summer to go on group rides and work on all things cycling. Participants will need to provide their own bike, helmet and support riders (if required).

Clubs
There are several clubs available for Para cyclists to join, including:

  • Canterbury Time Trial Association
  • Canterbury Track Cycling Club
  • Cycling South Canterbury (Timaru)
  • Tasman Wheelers (Nelson)

COMPETITIONS
Cycling provides opportunities to compete in local road cycling time trials (8km & 16km) and on the track. There are club competitions and the National Championships held annual for both road and track cycling.

ParaFed Canterbury works with local sports clubs and organisations to offer a range of Para sport opportunities to our members. In most cases members will require a classification before becoming involved in competitive Para sport.
